Week 1 : Kick Off

Monday : Introduction

We were introduced to the project and client, the brief was presented to us. The lectures gave us a presentation with the guidelines and some inspiration and starting points along with a pitch in the city. We all worked on filling out our individual learning goals. We all worked on filling out our individual learning goals.

Tuesday: Team forming

We all completed the speed dating exercise to form our teams and make sure we had the same goals that would ensure we would all like to work in the same direction for the installation. We discussed our skills and hopes for the project. And got to know each other’s strengths as designers.

Wednesday: Brainstorming

We began brainstorming through looking at Enschede’s history, getting more knowledge of the city. We learned the city has an interesting past that is not shown around the area, it was one of the beginning options to develop on. To show passers-by the history of Enschede through an experience. Then looking at the Haverstraatpassage to see what stores was available and too see if there’s anything we could add to make the street more involving for passer-by. With this we found a review from a visitor saying that the street is “super fun and a real shopping street with all self-employed and creative entrepreneurs”. we can infer from the review that what makes the street is the independently owned  authentic business’s, not the chain store. This then began our focus on Enschede’s often overlooked places and business’s, to look at the hidden gem restaurants, shops, parks and clubs. We then began to brainstorm possible angles and in what direction we would like to go with the installation.

All agreeing that we would like to working on a  physical installation and not screen based. We envisioned our design will be a large installation, showing the true side to Enschede and promoting to shop local.

Along with visiting the city individually we walked around the city as a team. When walking around the streets we noticed there where many empty shops, chain stores where taking over, we want to use this project to promote shopping locally in independent shops and how they give the true Enschede experience. Instead of chain stores that is available in every city.

During our brainstorming session we came up with many possible ideas but developed three in-depth.

One to have a fun interaction of a selections of games that would end in a crane and would allow users to participate for a prize of getting a sample that we would get from a partner company.

The second idea was to again show people hidden areas of Enschede through video, to have little doorways are windows that when opened would play a video that could give a viewer an insight to the city.

The third idea is to give users an experience of Enschede through sounds relating to different locations.

Thurday : Scrum

The beginning of the Scrum class, we all wrote down what we envisioned the installation to consist of, so that we were all in agreement or if there was a few ideas we could explore. We had to ideas of how to create the sound installation. On inspired by an object the plays music such as a jukebox or record player having the map either on the record or in the jukebox, to refer back to the sound only or  focusing on a large scale 3d map of Enschede alone. Over the weekend we concluded we would all  research, sketch and brainstorm the idea further to explore both avenues. We then used Vivify-scrum to set out tasks and goal that would keep us on track with our Project.
