Today we finally tested the phones on the installation. Kaj got them working a couple of weeks ago however with the construction partinstallation completed with the phone holders we could perform a proper user test with the phones.
The holders for the phones were something that I improvised, since I figured whilst desining that they could be easilly implented with any kind of simple platform construction created with leftover parts. This turned out to be a good guess on my part since I used the leftover piece from the top of the stage and ring to create the stages. I combined this with some scrap plate that we got for free at the Jongeneel houthandel. These were made and attached in just 3 hours which I consider quick progress.
When testing them however it turned out that the phone wire would sometimes tange up with the rotating ring when someone held the phone at his ear, this was bit impractical and interfering with the smoothness of the interaction so I decided to drill little hole in the end of the pedestal on the users side so the phone wire would stick out of the installation 20 centimeters before going up towards the user. This illiminated the interferance completly. I improved the aesthetic of the hole by placing a green rubber ring over it that I found in a bucket with scrap parts in the workplace. The color fits the installation nicely as well.
